What is ACC
Sensitive Claims?

If you have experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault, support is available - for your mental health, your daily functioning, and your overall wellbeing.

Habit Health provides confidential, trauma-informed therapy and wellbeing support through ACC's Sensitive Claims Service. This programme funds a range of services - tailored to an individual's needs - from talk therapy to physical and functional allied health support. Together, we help survivors to heal and reconnect with the world around them.

Our services are covered by ACC and are accessed at no cost. A lead provider (Counsellor, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Psychotherapist or Social Work Counsellor) will work with you to determine your needs and goals and co-ordinate care, including access to a wider range of wellbeing and allied health support, where your recovery needs it.

How the process works

You can contact us directly, you don't need a referral. We will gather some key information from you to help us best match you to one of
our therapists. If we don't have a suitable provider available, we'll let you know and provide information about how to find support elsewhere.

An approved provider will guide you through the next steps. ACC's sensitive claims pathway can vary depending on your situation.

You remain in control of your counselling, rehabilitation and decisions throughout.

Our trauma-informed
approach

Our team includes psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists and social workers as well as allied health providers, experienced in trauma informed care and sensitive claims support.

We prioritise:

  • Emotional, psychological and physical safety
  • Choice and control
  • Clear communication
  • Cultural safety
  • Respectful, non-judgemental care

We recognise that every person’s experience is different. Therapy is tailored to your pace and preferences.

What therapy may involve

Depending on your needs and your wellbeing plan, support
may include:

  • Trauma processing
  • Emotional regulation strategies
  • Support for anxiety, depression or PTSD symptoms
  • Building coping and resilience skills
  • Sleep and stress support
  • Rebuilding confidence and daily functioning
  • Physiotherapy, occupational therapy or other allied health support as part of your wellbeing plan
  • Social work, cultural support, or whānau/family support services
  • Group-based therapy (where appropriate and available)

Your support is built around your individual recovery goals. You and your therapist will work together to develop your wellbeing plan, with your lead provider (therapist) coordinating any adjunct services you may need.

questions

Do I have to report the abuse to the police?

No. You do not need to report to police to access ACC Sensitive Claims therapy.

Is support fully funded?

How long does ACC approval take?

Timeframes vary. Your therapist will guide you through the process and keep you informed.

What types of providers might be involved in my care?

Your lead provider will be a psychologist, counsellor, psychotherapist, social work counsellor or psychiatrist. Depending on your recovery needs, your wellbeing plan may also involve a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker, dietitian, speech language therapist, registered nurse or cultural support advisor. All providers work together under your plan.
