Our approach to psychology

How to access psychology services

There are two pathways to access psychology support at Habit Health:

ACC contract

  • Habit Health is an approved ACC provider.

  • If your psychological concerns relate to a covered injury or trauma - including ACC Sensitive Claims - you may be eligible for ACC-funded psychology sessions.

  • Our team can help you understand your eligibility and guide you through the process.

Self-referral

  • This support is suitable for those wanting help with anxiety, depression, stress, resilience, grief, loss, chronic pain or health conditions.

  • We have limited private appointments available.

  • You can refer yourself directly - no GP or specialist referral is required.

  • Contact our team to enquire about availability and to discuss your needs.

  • Private rates apply.

If you are accessing support through ACC's Sensitive Claims pathway, please see our dedicated page for more information.

Frequently asked
questions

Do I need a GP referral for psychology?

No, you can self-refer directly to Habit Health for psychology services, however please note, private appointments are limited.

How do I access psychology through ACC?

If your psychological concerns relate to a covered injury or trauma - including sexual abuse or assault - you may be eligible for ACC-funded psychology through our ACC contract pathway. Reach out and our team can support you with understanding eligibility and the application process.

What is the difference between counselling and psychology?

Counselling provides a confidential space to explore everyday challenges and develop coping strategies. Psychology involves more structured clinical assessment and evidence-based therapy for complex or persistent clinical concerns.

Are sessions available online or in person?

Both options are available. Psychology sessions can be delivered in person at our clinics across Aotearoa or online when needed.

Is psychology confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential. Information is shared only with your consent, or where legally required due to risk of harm. Where ACC is involved, information required for claim processing is shared - and we will explain this clearly before proceeding.

Can I choose my psychologist?

You can discuss your preferences when making an enquiry. We will do our best to match you with an appropriate psychologist based on your needs, location and availability.
